Classes and Retreats

  • Another Beginners' Meditation class will begin Tuesday, June 19, 7-9 p.m.

  • To register, just email us at louisville.vipassana@gmail.com. Once you have emailed to sign up for the class, just bring payment the first night. There's no need to pay in advance.

  • If you are interested in receiving some instruction on meditation and mindfulness, please contact one of teachers: Glenda Hodges-Cook at hodgescook@gmail.com or Phil Lloyd-Sidle at phil.lloydsidle@gmail.com.

  • Beginning class sessions are currently suspended.

2024 Winter Silent 7-Day Retreat at Sisters of Loretto

  • The dates are January 21 (beginning Sunday evening) through January 28 (ending at noon on Sunday).

  • We will begin informally in silence on Sunday evening, January 21 at 7:00 pm. People can arrive after 4:00 pm on Sunday to get settled. If you cannot arrive on Sunday evening, arrive by 9:00 am Monday morning, January 22. We'll formally begin at 9:00 am on Monday. The retreat will end on Sunday noon, January 28.

  • Registration: The fee for the retreat is $575. Ways to make your payment: PayPal -- using the payment button below; OR Venmo -- From your Venmo app send money to: @LouVipassana. Add a note indicating that it's for the retreat (if prompted for the last-4 of a phone number, enter 4554); OR check -- made payable to "Susan Mercke" and mailed to 3934 Druid Hills Rd. Louisville, KY 40207. The fee includes room and the main meal served at lunch in Loretto's cafeteria. We will provide our own breakfast foods and coordinate suppers. The deadline for registering is January 2, 2024. Scholarships are available.

  • LVC Scholarship Fund: If you are planning on attending the retreat or if you are not, anyone interested is invited to contribute to this new fund which will help others attend. Ways to contribute: PayPal -- Go to our webpage and click on the "dana" tab and then on its drop-down menu, click the "LVC Scholarship Fund" and enter the amount you wish.

  • Basic Retreat Format: The retreat will be in silence, including meals. Each day will be comprised of a number of sits throughout the day along with walking meditation. There will be a dharma talk each day and an opportunity for Qi Gong. The evening will close with a heart practice.

LVC Day-long Retreats

  • Our next daylong retreat be held on June 9th, with a backup date of June 23rd in case of rain. This retreat will be held at a farm out on Harrod's Creek and there is no registration fee; however, there will be an opportunity to offer dana for the teacher.

  • Please email us at louisville.vipassana@gmail.com if you are interested in registering or would like more information.

  • Space is limited so we encourage you to register early.

  • These retreats are offered by donation under the tradition of dana, but a non-refundable $15 registration fee is required in advance in order to cover the cost of the retreat center.

  • Some past retreats have seen a high number of no-shows on retreat day. Please register only if you are committed to attending.

  • Should you need to cancel for an unforeseen reason, please let us know. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

  • Daylong retreats are usually held on a quarterly basis from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Passionist Earth & Spirit Center ("The Barn") located at 1924 Newburg Road.
